Technology &

Realisation

The area of expertise Technology and Realisation is next to Math, Data & Computing the most proficient for me. Throughout the bachelor I ended up with T&R related tasks frequently due to the skills I had already gathered and thereby further strengthening them.

Problem solving

The main skill that I can take from this area is problem solving. The approach to break a problem down into segments and then consistently and continuously find paths around the problem, is an approach that I learned through the various programming courses, but can very easily and effectively be integrated outside of the expertise area. Because of it the problem can be approached objectively and tackled step by step. This skill quickly developed within my first year through several T&R courses: Creative Programming, Creative Apps and Creative Electronics as well as the taken role in From Idea to Design and Project 1.

'The Trash hole'

Problem solving as well as technology skills in hardware and software, next to realising products continued developing during my internship. One of the two tasks there was to further develop one of their products named the ‘Trash Hole’. A very basic prototype had already been made, but my task then was to further develop it into a viable product. This needed the software, hardware and form giving skills and in the end a hi-fi prototype was made. Here I learned to document my work within these skills for other employees to understand and use the work that I already delivered.

By myself

The real final test was however in my FBP. In this project I needed to create a fully functional hi-fi prototype for research purposes. It needed an API, an executable program and hardware to communicate and function together. I had not used most of the different components before and creating this prototype from beginning to finish by myself and it being completely functional further solidifies that I am proficient and confident in these skills.
